Environmental scientists have concluded that cutting out meat, dairy, and other animal products is one of the most effective ways for individuals to reduce ecological damage, while ethologists provide indisputable evidence that other species of animals live complex cognitive, emotional, and social lives that demand moral, ethical, and political responses from humans.
Yet, billions upon billions of animals continue to endure violent treatment in their exploitation and slaughter each year across the globe, along with millions of workers suffering in deplorable working conditions in the animal farming industry.
The City of Toronto holds a special place where an opportunity exists to reorient human relationships with other animals towards peace and justice, and reshape our economic and food production systems to more humane and sustainable alternatives.
